Love, Relationships and Humans……Really!

The title of this article is the same as this time last year’s, however, the focus is a bit different.  This month we will celebrate diversity and inclusion as well as Valentine’s Day...after all, it IS February!  I’m convinced that all that matters in this world are the relationships we have and the love we experience.  To truly love, one must be void of judgment and be willing to ‘look beyond the imperfections of others.  While we may not always agree with one another, it is critical that we value the differences that each of us offer and realize that we are uniquely designed.  In the words of my 6 year old, “If everyone was the same, the world would be boring”.  I say to her, “I couldn’t agree more!” 

While none of us are perfect, that’s part of the beauty that we offer.  Obviously, each of us have individual visual differences but it’s the differences we aren’t able to see (more than 90% of what is ‘out of sight’) that make up Humans….Really!  At the root of these ‘out of sight’ differences lies, perhaps, the most interesting form of diversity ever--cognitive diversity; the diversity of thought.  The diversity of thought leads to innovation and solving problems in a more collaborative, constructive, creative way. This can only be the case if you approach a new perspective with a spirit of openness (much like newlyweds or those in a new relationship experience). Certainly you remember back to those early days, even if you’ve been married or involved with another for years, when you were excited to accommodate and eager to activelylisten to the suggestion of your significant other. It is with that type of untainted heart that I encourage you to use when dealing with Humans…Really! It is in that vein where relationships will develop; thus making connections that count (hey, that sounds like a great theme for an Ohio HR Conference)!

SHRM SuperStar Award

For the second consecutive year, MVHRA has been awarded the SHRM SuperStar Award. This award is given to SHRM chapters that achieve at least a 3% growth in SHRM members. MVHRA achieved over a 5% growth in SHRM members.

In fact, we not only had growth in SHRM members but also had incredible growth in total membership, reaching 328 members by the end of the year. This is an increase of over 13% or 39 members. There are many MVHRA events for you to get actively involved in, such as monthly luncheon meetings, professional workshops, monthly HR-Xchange meetings and monthly wine socials. All of MVHRA’s events are open to non-members so feel free to bring guests or those that have an interest in our Association.

We also have volunteer positions open for members on the various committees.

Make the most of your MVHRA membership! We hope to see you and your colleagues at future events.
