Certification Committee Update

Submitted By Kay Phillips, MSM, PHR, SHRM-CP

Changes in PHR/SPHR Exams

Effective August 1st, exam content for both the PHR and SPHR exams, including the kinds of exam questions being utilized have changed. In addition to the standard multiple-choice questions with one correct response, HRCI’s PHR/SPHR certification exams now also include multiple choice questions with more than one correct response, drag and drop (matching) questions, and fill-in-the-blank questions.  The number of questions on the exam has not changed and the exam duration also remains the same. If you are planning, or already studying, to take either of these HRCI exams in the coming months, you’ll want to check out the full details at www.hrci.org.

SHRM Recertification Program Policy Change

Good news! Recertifying your SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP credential just got a little easier as SHRM has removed the limit on the number of professional development credits (PDCs) you can claim for self-paced activities in the “Advance your Education” category.  In a posting on the SHRM website dated August 9th, SHRM says they heard members' desire for more flexibility in earning PDCs for recertification and are pleased to remove the prior limit for self-paced educational activities. According to SHRM, certified professionals should not “… let constraints on your budget, location or schedule stop you from earning the 60 PDCs required to recertify” and that each professional can “[c]reate the professional development path that best meets your needs”. More information on PDCs can be found at www.shrm.org or the SHRM Certification Portal at portal.shrm.org.
