Clothes That Work -  Men at Work Event

 

The Workforce Readiness Committee of MVHRA has partnered with Clothes That Work to support the Men At Work campaign.  The Men At Work campaign raises funds for job seekers in the Miami Valley.

 

Role models compete to be the most influential man in the Miami Valley.  The campaign kicks off on April 24th at the Arts Annex with fun, food, and refreshments.  Voting begins that night and ends with a celebration on May 22nd to crown the winner.  To buy tickets to the event or vote for your favorite role model, go to: http://www.clothesthatwork.org/about_menatwork/

Luncheon: Creating a Culture of Civility in the Workplace

Speaker: Marcus S. Nagy, Ph.D.

This presentation will introduce the notion of civility in the workplace and how creating a culture of civility can increase respect for all employees within a workgroup. In doing so, acceptance and inclusion will be enhanced for all members of the workgroup, regardless of sex, race, religion, or any other protected group. Hence, civility is more than a diversity initiative that often focuses on only one protected group. In addition, it will be argued that increasing civility will result in fewer claims of sexual harassment while also reducing organizational costs associated with absenteeism and turnover, and increasing job satisfaction and performance. Finally, steps that can be taken to build a culture of civility in the workplace will be presented.

 

Credits: This program is being submitted for approval of recertification credits by the HR Certification Institute (HRCI) and for SHRM Professional Development Credit (PDC).

Workshop: How to Find Confidence in Conflict and Negotiate Effectively

This customized workshop is designed to make difficult conversations easier and give you the confidence you need to overcome fear, frustration, and anxiety. These workshops will help you to communicate confidently, deal with difficult people, and get what you deserve. Specifically, participants will learn the following:

  • How to have critical conversations;
  • How to create trust and understanding;
  • How to interject managed conflict into high level discussions;
  • How to use critical conversations as an opportunity to understand your colleagues, stakeholders, and clients and create an atmosphere that facilitates open conversation;
  • How to avoid critical mistakes that stifle communication and create hostility; and
  • How to approach every interaction as a strategic opportunity for future success.

The workshop will end with a negotiation simulation that will give the participants the opportunity to practice these new skills in a safe environment.
