It’s hard to believe that the holidays are here. It’s even harder to believe that it’s only been a year since the last holiday season!

As we finally near the end of 2020, there are several things different about this holiday season for employers. COVID-19 and the drama surrounding the U.S. election are just a few of the “gifts” that have been dropped in employers’ laps this year. Things are tough this year in a lot of ways.

This year hasn’t been without its challenges for MVHRA. However, it seems that MVHRA overall has made it through 2020 quite well, and we have a positive outlook as we head into 2021. We will have the same Executive Board team back for 2021 following our own election that concluded in early November. Our Board of Directors is full of both experienced volunteers and new, eager volunteers, all of whom we are very thankful for this year. MVHRA really has not had any difficulty finding volunteers when we’ve needed them for this year’s initiatives.

Those initiatives have included hitting the reset button on MVHRA’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, where we have gained a new Chair, Assistant Chair, and additional Committee members this year. They have worked within their Committee and with fellow Board members on projects like MVHRA’s statement on diversity and inclusion, in the wake of ongoing social justice issues; the refocusing of the Committee’s own mission statement; the gathering of useful third-party resources for organizations that are seeking help in this space; and the ongoing survey of current MVHRA members regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion within their organizations. This team that formed amidst all that was happening in 2020 has hit the ground running and is likely to be a great asset for MVHRA going forward.

This year for MVHRA, there has even been a silver lining to the unfortunate situation of having to switch to virtual meetings and virtual programming for most of 2020, which we’re having to do again for December’s meeting. In 2020, we’ve become more familiar with and more adept at using the technology that helps us stay connected when we can’t meet in person. That technology has allowed us to continue to offer accredited programming for those looking to keep their HR certifications intact. It also has helped us find answers to a common question that we have asked over the years --- “how can we help members connect more in between monthly meetings?” If you are someone who’s interested in hearing more about what MVHRA is offering to members to help them stay connected on a week-to-week basis, please visit and reach out to any Board member.

So, as 2020 draws to a close, we hope that all of our members, their families, and their friends have a safe and healthy holiday season. And we look forward to continuing the work of MVHRA in 2021, whatever 2021 might bring! Surely it has to be better than 2020!

Resume Review – Volunteers Needed

The College Relations Committee is looking for 13 volunteers to review resumes for the HR students from Wright State University. The resumes will be distributed the week of January 18th and each volunteer will be given 3 resumes to review and will be asked to respond back to the HR students within 2 weeks with feedback.   This is a great way to assist our future HR employees.  Please contact Beth Mitrousis at or she can be reached at 937-494-2823 if you are able to assist.  As always, we are very appreciative of your support.
